Good day with the family!
It has been one of those truly good days. The ones you are sure that you will remember and the ones you hope your kids will also remember for a long time. It was an unseasonably warm December day (in the high 50's). We went to church in the morning and then headed out to Roanoke Rapids, NC (the nearest small city) for a day out on the town (ha!!!). We discussed on the car what we all wanted for lunch and could not reach a concensus. Burgers, sandwiches, BBQ or the local fish place. Finally Jake said: "why dont we get take out from two places and have a picnic in the park by the river". We had never been to that park before but we had all heard good things about it. So the kids agreed on McD's and the grown ups agreed on the fish place. We got out takeout and half an hour later we were in the park. The park had big open soccer fields and a walking track. It also had a great playground and some picnic tables right by the playground. It also had a walking/biking trail by the river. We picked a spot and had a great time enjoying our food and some good conversation. The kids finished quickly and ran to play in the playground. Jake and I spend a bit of time just talking and enjoying our lunch. After lunch Jake and I joined them and played some tag with them and played on the playground. There was no one in the park but us and it was a truly enjoyable afternoon. The kids all showed their latest tricks. Samantha can pass the monkey bars and Ive can climb to the top and do a backwards flip. Zeke can climb the climbing wall and can balance on the balance beam. We then decided to walk the trail by the river. The kids had a fun time skipping rocks, looking at wildlife and just running around. Then it was time to go.... It was a great day!
